A Session with Blawan

This Friday Melbourne will be treated to a couple of the hottest names in UK Bass music, Blawan & Pariah. Together they have seen releases on R&S, Hessle Audio and Clone. As well as collaborating as the Karenn duo.

Is this the first time visiting Australia?

Yes, first time ever.

Tell us about your DJ Sets? Do you plan to go live in the future?
My set vary like most peoples, The "live" thing is something I will be doing with the Karenn (a collaboration between Blawan & Pariah) project
at the end of the year.

You're a relatively young producer. Can you shed any advice for other young producers trying to make it somewhere?
Don't know if mid twenties is considered young in music anymore! Age is completely irrelevant, in fact its usually a lot easier to get opportunities in the industry if you're a young(er) guy or girl making music.

You're closely tied with the R&S Label, how'd you get involved with this legendary imprint?

Through friends I had made, nothing really that interesting if I am honest. I'm no longer working with R&S mind.

We quite like the sound of your drums, any secrets?
EQ till your happy

You've mentioned that if you could make drum loops for a living you would. Whats your thoughts on producers doing other things for money like selling sample packs etc?

Yer that was a bit of a joke, looking back I couldn't think of anything worse. It's easy to do and thus probably a reason not to do it. Ideal world people would record there own samples.

What artists have you bee listening to lately?

Truss, Rivet, Neil Landstrom, AnD

Have you got any new music coming up?

"Long Distance Open Water Worker" EP on Black Sun records is next up, should be out the end of May.
